Recently, the international political situation has once again attracted widespread attention. According to Yonhap News Agency, the US Department of Energy confirmed on March 14th local time that as early as January this year, the United States had included South Korea in the list of "sensitive countries". Once this news was disclosed, it quickly caused waves in the international community. The ruling party of South Korea, the National Power Party, and the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs urgently responded on March 15th.
The spokesperson of the National Power Party of South Korea earnestly pointed out in the statement that this move by the US is highly likely to damage the cornerstone of trust between the South Korean US alliance, and deeply regrets this. The spokesperson further emphasized that what is even more worrying is that this measure may set numerous obstacles to future cooperation between South Korea and the United States in strategic technology fields, especially in key areas such as nuclear energy and artificial intelligence. The cooperation in these fields is of great significance to South Korea's technological development and national security, and the restrictions imposed by the United States will undoubtedly bring huge challenges to the development of related industries in South Korea.
At the same time, the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs also spoke out at the first time. The South Korean side has clearly stated that it "takes seriously" the US listing of South Korea as a "sensitive country" and has declared that it will actively engage in in-depth consultations with the US on this issue, striving to resolve it properly through diplomatic channels and safeguard South Korea's reasonable rights and interests in international cooperation.
If the US officially implements relevant measures from April 15th according to the plan, South Korea will undoubtedly face many difficulties and obstacles when participating in cutting-edge research in nuclear energy, artificial intelligence, quantum technology and other fields led by the United States. This may not only hinder the progress of related scientific research projects in South Korea, but also to some extent affect South Korea's position in the global technological competition landscape.
The underlying reasons behind the United States' inclusion of South Korea in the list of "sensitive countries" and the subsequent outcome of the negotiations between South Korea and the United States have attracted international attention. In the future, the direction of South Korea US relations and the development trend of South Korea in related technological fields deserve continuous attention.
