According to Reuters and Al Jazeera, a spokesperson for the Afghan interim government's Ministry of Interior announced on the 22nd that the United States has cancelled a $10 million bounty previously offered for the capture of Acting Interior Minister Sirajdin Haqqani. Al Jazeera reported that two days ago, the Afghan interim government released an American citizen, George Glazman, who had been detained in Kabul for two years. Reuters reported that the US State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the above news. However, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) still lists bounty information for Haqqani on its website.
Reuters and Al Jazeera both mentioned that Sirajdin Haqqani is considered one of the main leaders of the Taliban. On the FBI website, Haqqani is reportedly a senior leader of the Haqqani organization, maintaining contact with organizations including the Taliban, and is also listed as a "specially designated global terrorist". The Haqqani organization is a branch of the Taliban and is recognized by the United States as a terrorist organization.
It is reported that on August 30, 2021, the US government completed the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan. The Taliban announced the formation of an interim government on September 7th of the same year and announced the main members of the interim government. Among them, Sirajdin Haqqani was appointed as the Acting Minister of the Interior.
